The Charioteer thinks, ‘I’m glad I’m done with all that tiresome past, I’m so out of here,’ only to find himself going in circles.

Not all eager men who come to me with their excitement get the message they’re hoping for. ‘You’re going in circles,’ I tell them, ‘do you realize that?’ I ask them, and then wait for their coin to drop.

When the coin does drop after denial is dissipated, the appropriate reaction sets in: ‘oh fuck.’
